Peniel

The Peniel program deals with poverty eradication in the communities. While there are many problems in the rural villages, poverty is the main catalyst to all the others.

I'll give an example of the AIDs scourge.

Many young girls are entering the prostitution trade as a means of making money. Young ladies are forced into offering sexual favors to get jobs. These things are not only happening to single people but even to married women! There are now drugs available that can help those suffering from AIDs. But these are too expensive for most Ugandans. This means earlier deaths, more children born HIV positive or likely to contract the disease as they grow around mothers with a high viral load. You can clearly see that poverty will compound almost every problem.

In Uganda 44% of the people live below the poverty line. So 60% of the rural folk (villagers) are in abject poverty. Many people in the Lake Kyoga basin are at the mercy of the elements, but, given a hand, they would be able to stand and even help each other to stand.

We want them to "see the face of God" (Peniel) as we work amongst them.

We intend to help in the following ways:

a) Make improved seeds for planting available to the people and train them how to best plant (e.g. spacing) to get maximum output.

b) Train people in the usage of proper storage facilities and planning for food security.

c) Use of irrigation from the abundant water supply from Lake Kyoga would ensure that there was no problem in times of drought.

The above attempts will be a big stride ahead in fighting poverty famine, malnutrition, poor housing, and poor clothing.
